After more than 25 years of combined military service — and three years of owning this land — we finally moved our family onto the ridge at the beginning of this summer.
It is not a finished farm. It is a beginning we can walk out and touch: hens in the run, fruit already growing, a home we can grow old in, and a kitchen window that looks across the field to the Blue Ridge foothills.
We hope, in time, to share food from this land, Lord willing. We are not selling just yet. First we need to learn the ground, keep the flock well, and put a fall garden in the soil.
Looking Ahead
Spring 2027, if the season is kind.
We would like to bring sheep onto the farm, and meat chickens too. Until then the work is quieter and just as real: eggs coming on, a fall garden, wild blackberries to preserve, and apples trees to watch (not so) patiently waiting for our first fruit.
